LEAVE THE DRIVER IN YOUR BAG
AND IMPROVE YOUR SCORE
Want to play 4 different courses in Myrtle Beach where leaving your driver in the bag would actually improve your score??
Then check out the following courses along the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Consider leaving the driver covered for the entirety of your rounds at these courses and you just might be able to shave off a few strokes in the process.
Which four courses you ask?
Aberdeen Country Club
Founders Club of Pawley’s Island
Litchfield Country Club
Myrtle Beach National, South Creek
ABERDEEN COUNTRY CLUB
At Aberdeen, there are very few holes where a driver is needed. You may want to use it on Nos. 1 and 5 on Highlands and No. 5 on Meadows. But other than that using your driver club, could prove to be a bad move. Avoid those occasional sprays with a different club, and most players would be smooth sailing.
FOUNDERS CLUB OF PAWLEYS ISLAND
Founders Club and all its sand can be an absolute burden for those who find it over and over again. And while it’s nearly impossible to avoid all of it for 18 holes – trust us, it’s everywhere – limiting those long second shots out of a massive waste bunker is priority No. 1. Players can do that by laying off on the first shot of each Par 4 and Par 5. On most holes, it is the difference between a par or double bogey.
LITCHFIELD COUNTRY CLUB
Maybe the most prevalent member of this group, Litchfield has been the poster child for reserving yourself off the tee box since it opened in 1966. Even then, with equipment that didn’t allow more of us to start booming away, it made zero sense to fight all the doglegs. Instead, a high iron or hybrid will do the trick and leave you with plenty of great looks into the green to attack in other areas.
MYRTLE BEACH NATIONAL, SOUTHCREEK
At a shade under 6,100 yards from the white tees, very few players of that level are going to be complaining about the distance at South Creek. What they may do, however, is realize after a round here that this course was built specifically to cater to those who aren’t going out there only thinking about distance. It bends and winds around doglegs and waste bunkers and some water – all problems for those who aren’t knocking it down the middle.
Myrtle Beach Golf Directors would like to thank Ian Guerin for the above story line.
