PGA Cancels 2022 Championship scheduled to take place at Trumps Golf Course in New Jersey after recent mob events at the U.S. Capitol building.
The PGA of America Board of Directors voted Sunday night to terminate the agreement to play the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster in New Jersey, Jim Richerson, the PGA of America president, announced.
This comes days after a mob of President Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building, causing damage and resulting in the deaths of five people.
Richerson said, “It’s become clear that conducting the PGA championship at Trump Bedminster would be detrimental to the PGA of America brand” and risks the organization’s ability to deliver on its programs and goals of promoting golf.
In a column posted on Saturday evening, Golfweek’s Eamon Lynch foresaw the PGA of America making a move regarding its 2022 PGA Championship, and sure enough…. on the Sunday night segment of the Golf Channel, Lynch said that Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa and Liberty National Golf Club are now being considered by the PGA officials as a replacement.
No matter which property they choose, this decision severs all ties with Trump’s golf properties in the foreseeable future.
