Peter Alliss Dies at the Age of 89.

Surrey, England.

                          Peter Alliss  1931 – 2020

Alliss was a commentator for the Masters Tournament that took place in Augusta, GA just last month.  One of his most memorable moments was when he gave golf lessons to the former ‘James Bond’ Actor Sean Connery to prepare him for a scene he had to do in the movie ‘Goldfinger’, where Bond had to play golf against his enemy.  Those lessons Connery had with Alliss created a lifelong love of playing golf for Sean Connery.

Peter Alliss first appeared on the golf scene as a child.  At the tender age of 15, he joined his father on the course.  In 1947 he turn professional. Then in 1961 began his commentator career.  He spent more than 50 years broadcasting for the BBC.  Peter Allis was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame in 2012 and won more than 31 tournaments before he retired in 1975.  He continued on to be the witty  commentator he had become famous for today.

The Alliss family made a statement Sunday saying: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of golfing and broadcast legend Peter Alliss.”  They described his death as “unexpected but peaceful.”  The family also said “Peter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  The family asks for privacy at this difficult time.”

He once referred to himself as “The Cheaky Chap, who went where Angels feared to tread”.

Peter has now joined those Angels.

Rest in Peace, Peter.

Golf will not be the same without you.
