Dustin Johnson wins the Saudi International
Dustin Johnson was steady and solid — two words often used to describe the World’s No. 1 player — as he closed out yet another victory, this time the Saudi International at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City.
DJ shot a largely mistake-free 68 in Sunday’s final round, making his only bogey of the week (he did have one double in the third round) on the 16th hole before bouncing back with a birdie on No. 17 to put his ninth European Tour victory on ice. He finished the tournament at 15 under, two strokes ahead of Tony Finau and Justin Rose, who tied for second.
After the victory, Johnson said: “I knew I was hitting it well. I kept giving myself chances. I didn’t hole any of them, but I kept making good shots.”
Sunday’s final round was less eventful than, say, Friday, when Johnson struck a marshal with his drive on the 10th hole. When the ball came down, the volunteer was not watching, and the ball hit him directly in the back. The volunteer dropped like a rock immediately. One witness in the crowd asked, “Is he dead?” The volunteer got right up and said he was alright, that may not be the case, in the days to come, as his bruise heals and the swelling goes down. The guy went down hard and fast. There is a difference of being hit by a pop-up from the 12-handicapper on another hole. This is the ball of the No. 1 player in the world, who averages 177.74 ball speed. There is no news yet on the volunteer’s actual condition. https://youtu.be/4beoj594gtI
